  • How Siobhan created a safe and enriching environment for foster kittens in a smaller space

How Siobhan created a safe and enriching environment for foster kittens in a smaller space

How Tok Tok Cat Tree and other pieces from Woods For Cats helped Siobhan create a safe, enriching space for her foster kittens in her smaller sized house

Siobhan is a foster carer for LittleV&Friends Animal Rescue, a Melbourne-based small independent rescue group who strive to re-home abandoned, orphaned or stray animals.

Siobhan’s journey into fostering kittens began in September 2020, during Victoria’s 3-month lockdown. A member of her family was experiencing depression, and the idea came to her that fostering could help them, as well as providing much-needed support to rescue cats. Describing it as having completely changed her life, Siobhan says fostering is not just about saving and improving the lives of cats and kittens “it’s also about changing families’s lives”.

Starting with one cat, she has since gone on to foster over 70 kittens, and inspired others around her (including her mum and friends) to foster, too.

In order to provide enough stimulation and access to scratching space, climbing space and play activities for the foster kittens, Siobhan needed to find sturdy, safe and fun cat trees, scratching posts and other cat furniture that would suit her space. Having seen eye-catching and compact pieces in the house of Vivienne, owner of LittleV&Friends Animal Rescue, Siobhan asked for more information. “I thought they were amazing and wanted some for my place too.”

    THE CHALLENGE

Fostering kittens without the right cat furniture and equipment

Fostering cats and kittens can be challenging, especially without the right furniture and equipment in place to provide enough stimulation and activity for lively, growing animals.

Siobhan’s house had limited space, however she was determined to create a kitten room, to house and socialise them. She also wanted cat furniture that was sturdy, durable and easy to clean. However, she found that most cat furniture on the market was not up to the task, with past cat tower purchases breaking within 18 months of use, creating further cost to replace them.

“I was tired of spending money (on cat trees) only to have to replace them within a year or so. I had a cat tower that I purchased for about $160 (AUD), and it only lasted 18 months. The whole thing would rock as the cats would jump onto it and then it broke completely. I was tired of spending money, only to replace these cat trees 12-18 months down the track. Plus, they were so hard to clean and didn’t look that nice in my house.”

    THE SOLUTION

When Siobhan initially saw Vivienne’s furniture from Woods For Cats, she knew she wanted to get some, when she had the money to invest.

“I reached out to Woods For Cats and she was able to receive a discounted end of line piece. I loved that piece so much that a few months later I invested in another – Tok Tok cat tree. It has honestly been the best purchase I have ever made for cats – everyone needs to get one in their house!”

Tok Tok (alongside other quality wooden furniture) met Siobhan’s needs perfectly.

“Woods For Cats furniture is mostly easy to clean, durable, and even rent (move)-friendly – Tok Tok is easy to move and reassemble, and it is secured by spring-loading so no nails or screws are needed.”

Siobhan says the Tok Tok is ideal for renters or if you know you will move at some point.  “I recently moved house and I was a bit concerned about having to move it. I reached out to Livia who recommended taking the platforms off, whilst leaving the brackets on. It took me about 20 minutes to remove the platforms and another 20 to put them back together in my new place – it was super easy to move.”

“You can also get extra platforms, so if you need extra pieces for the cats to sit on or sleep in, you can add them on later, as well as buying replacement rope or carpet if it wears out over time. Although, honestly the furniture has dealt with up to 5 energetic kittens at once for over more than a year now, with no issues at all, and still it looks as brand new as the day it arrived – 12 months ago!”

    THE RESULT

Improved safety, enrichment and socialisation for foster kittens

Tok Tok cat tree and other pieces from Woods For Cats have made fostering easier for Siobhan. “I now have a complete kitten room in the living area of my house, and most of it is made up of  Woods For Cats furniture. This means that the kittens have a safe space to get used to us, and also get plenty of socialising with visitors. The furniture has been perfect for this space – adding height for climbing and perching – without taking up too much room at all. The kittens absolutely love playing, climbing, and sleeping on the cat tree and the beds, and all of these enrichment options help them socialise, and to grow and become healthy, happy young cats for their forever families.”

“Thanks to Livia’s research and deep understanding of cats and their needs, we also have a range of different scratchers to offer our foster kittens. Some cats love scratching vertically, while others prefer scratching a horizontal surface (or it’s a combination). I’ve definitely seen both preferences with the foster kittens, and it’s been a lifesaver being able to offer the cats both options.”

“And, if the kittens ever get distracted and go to scratch a piece of my furniture, I just redirect them to the scratcher and they’re so happy, they forget about my things.”

Siobhan has been recommending Tok Tok cat trees to her friends and co-workers, many of whom have also invested in them. She believes that the furniture is an excellent investment for anyone with a cat in their life.

She says: “Break it down as an investment – cats typically live between 15 to 18 years, so that’s only about $65 per year for a quality piece of furniture that looks good in your home, your cat will love, and you’ll never have to replace. The alternative is to buy lower quality pieces that break within 12-18 months and end up costing you 3x more across your cat’s lifetime.”

To anyone thinking of buying Woods For Cats cat furniture, Siobhan contemplates: “I get it when people don’t want to spend money with cost of living, but if you look at a bigger picture and invest straight away, your cat is going to love it (when the location is right and for some cats you give enough time), you’ll love it, it looks great – honestly I wouldn’t get anything else. So, you can’t go wrong. Just get it, and know it will last.”

“Woods For Cats furniture is an investment that I don’t regret one bit. Tok Tok cat trees are tall, but compact, making it perfect for smaller spaces. Cats love to climb up high – their instinct is to climb trees – and with sturdy floor to ceiling cat trees they can climb up and look out from the top. Woods For Cats have done so well with these, they have researched EVERYTHING, and you honestly won’t find anything better.”

    FOSTERING

We asked Siobhan to share a bit more about her fostering journey

“Getting into fostering isn’t easy. There are many ropes to go through, including an orientation process with the RSPCA. But, for me, it’s worth it. I was lucky to know Viv and LittleV&Friends. When we knew we wanted to foster, we reached out to Viv, but being a distance away was a challenge. So, we decided to adopt instead at first.

“We adopted Nala, and through this process I was regularly communicating with Viv – we built up a connection and trust, and I began to foster kittens. I’ve probably fostered about 70-80 kittens since then (probably even more by now!)”

“We definitely need more carers – there aren’t enough of us out there. And, fostering cats and kittens doesn’t take up a lot of space or time. You don’t need to do too much apart from giving them lots of love and nourishment, and watch them flourish from there.”

How long do the kittens usually stay with you?

“The kittens normally stay with me from anywhere between a few weeks to a few months. The longest stay was probably 3 or 4 months. Although, I did have a pair in care up until 10 months old, who were hand reared. They were a bit timid which meant it took a little longer for them to find a forever home.”

“A big thing to focus on is the area they’re in and what they’re exposed to – do they get to experience a range of sounds, smells, and people? It’s a good idea to always start them in a small, safe space (that’s why I have the kitten room set up). From there, you can introduce them to new areas and new people to help socialise them, and get them used to ‘life’.”

What motivates you and what are the challenges?

“There can definitely be challenges with fostering. This time last year (May, 2022) was the hardest period for me. I seemed to have sick kitten after sick kitten. Knowing your limits with fostering is so important. I’ve worked out my limit is 4 kittens at a time. I can extend to 5, but when I’ve had 5 or 6, I see more sickness – one will fall ill, then another, and trying to give them all equal focus can be hard.”

“If you’re considering fostering, I’d say, do what you can do within your own means. And, make sure you look after yourself, too. I keep fostering because the love they give you and the reward of seeing them flourish, and leave a confident and completely different kitten keeps me going. Knowing I’ve changed their life and made all these families happy keeps me going. The only time I’d stop is if I eventually have a family, but I think I’ll still do it. Fostering is a part of me and my life now.”

“I’m very grateful for Viv, who allowed me to start. She’s an amazing mentor and person. She’s supported me so much. I’m also so grateful for all the different people I’ve met, who I would never have met without fostering. And most of all, it’s brought me closer to being comfortable in my own skin being at home after COVID.”

  • It started with looking for a safer and sturdier alternative to Amy’s collapsing cat tree

It started with looking for a safer and sturdier alternative to Amy’s collapsing cat tree

    How three kittens adopted Amy

An avid researcher into all things cat-behaviour and nutrition, Amy had been considering adopting a cat when, in December 2020, she discovered a litter of stray kittens in a friend’s backyard. And, so it was that one small, flea-ridden, black furred kitten with Calicivirus came home to live with Amy.

From her research, Amy knew that cats are social creatures, so, in April 2021, Mushi got a sibling – Yuki, the tabby cat. They quickly became the best of friends.

Last, but definitely not least, Poki joined the family. It was on a visit to a rescue organisation with her friend that Amy met Poki, an 8-month old kitten who was shy and scared of being in the rescue environment. So, Poki joined the family too.

“Before adopting any of our cats, I had researched a lot about cats and learnt that, despite common misconceptions, they are actually social animals. I’ve definitely experienced that with Mushi, Yuki and Poki.”

Raising healthy cats starts with knowledge about feline nutrition

Keenly interested in feline nutrition, Amy researched all types of diets, from commercially available dry, wet and raw options, to making her own biologically complete raw cat food at home. “As I was researching diets, I slowly moved from avoiding dry cat food to considering wet food and raw food diets.”

“However, I found myself questioning how nutritionally complete some of these diets were (because they only included percentage ratios of different types of raw meat). Unable to find a commercial raw food option that was formulated to any sort of consistent standard, I contacted a feline nutritionist from Raw, Fed and Nerdy (they provide a handy directory of animal nutritionists).”

“They formulated two excellent kitten and adult recipes for me. I transitioned their food slowly to support their tummies, but it only took about a week, and all three cats took to the food quickly. On their website, Raw, Fed and Nerdy also offer a raw feeding course, which I took. This supported me to learn to formulate raw meals myself with the help of their spreadsheet, which is built with all the needed nutritional ranges and requirements. All of their raw food is formulated to NRC (National Research Council) requirements, and it’s such a great feeling knowing exactly what goes into their food, and that their nutritional needs are being met. It’s also been more affordable compared to buying commercial cat food, and the cats love it! I tried offering them wet food when ran out of their homemade meals, and they just refused to eat it.”

Alongside caring for the nutritional needs of these three young and energetic indoor cats, Amy wanted to make sure they had access to plenty of places to climb, scratch, hide, sleep and play. But finding the right cat furniture that was safe and sturdy, aesthetically pleasing and compact proved difficult.

    THE CHALLENGE

Finding sturdy, modern cat furniture that didn’t wobble or collapse, and also suited a small apartment

There’s nothing more alarming than watching your cat scale the cat tower, only to have the whole structure wobble, shake, or even fall over. In the search for the right cat furniture for her household, Amy came up against a number of challenges,
including a vital one – safety.

“We had moved into a new place and wanted cat furniture that also looked nice – we didn’t like the look of the cheaper velvet cat trees and went searching for a more stylish option. Initially we came across a Chinese brand who sold wooden cat trees that were more stylish than the regular towers. We bought a floor-to-ceiling tree from them, as well as their cat tower. At the time, we were thrilled by the idea of the floor-to-ceiling tree – it seemed so innovative. However, when it arrived without instructions, we got worried.”

“We messaged the company to ask for instructions. We were told there weren’t any, and that it would be really easy just to screw everything together. But there were SO many pieces, and we weren’t sure where everything was meant to go. We had a go setting it up and sent the company a photo. They replied that it ‘looks right’.”

“But then we had the first incident with the cat tree. We had built it in the corner of the living room near the TV. On a day when we had all been out of the house, I got a call from my housemate to say that the cat tree had fallen down, knocking the TV facedown on the ground as well. Luckily the cats were okay, and apart from a broken leg – the TV was also okay.”

“After that experience, we moved the tree away from the TV and rebuilt it in another room. It fell down again! We decided that was it – we were done with that cat tree. It was too unsafe. It was time to find something more suitable.”

“We had seen Woods For Cats online and loved their products, however the price point had previously not been within our budget. It seemed like it was now time to explore their options again, and to invest in furniture that was more reliable.”

    THE SOLUTION

Sturdy, modern and compact cat furniture that was ethically made for cat safety and longevity

“After our experience with the other company, I was apprehensive to try another floor-to-ceiling cat tree. I reached out to Livia from Woods For Cats who talked me through how their Pole Dancer and Tok Tok cat trees worked and reassured me of their safety features.”

“Because they’re so popular with cat families, I was also able to see a lot of examples of how other people had set up their Pole Dancer Cat Trees and Tok Tok trees in their apartments. “And now, we have a number of their products, including:

    APARTMENT HOUSE (discontinued)

“This is so sweet – it’s in the shape of a house with three stories to it.”

    TOK TOK CAT POLE DANCER

    (view the product here)

“This has carpet all the way up which is great for climbing. The cats took to it immediately.”

TOK TOK CAT TREES connected with BRIDGE

    (view the product here)

“As I said, I was apprehensive about this initially, but it’s SO sturdy. We’ve had it for more than a year now, and the little red line that indicates how far to push the pole up into the wall to secure it is still hidden – it’s literally stayed in the same position the whole time! The cats love it and use every single part of it.”

    FABRIC/ACRYLIC HAMMOCKS

“We initially put one of the fabric hammocks right at the top of the TokTok and had some challenges getting the cats to use it. But, we were able to chat about it with Livia, and she suggested we interact with it and make it interesting to the cats to help them feel confident using it. We used interactive toys and treats and within a week they were climbing right up into the hammock, no issues.”

    WINDOW MOUNTED FURNITURE

    (view the range here)

“We’ve added these later on onto the big window in the living room (to one side of the Tok Tok). The cats love to jump from one to another.”

    LOLLIPOP CARDBOARD SCRATCHER

    (view the product here)

“The scratcher sits underneath the Tok Tok ramp and there’s always someone using it. It’s the perfect size, and I love that you don’t have to repurchase the whole thing – just replace the insert – easy!”

    GRAND PIANO (discontinued)

“At night, all 3 of them will take a shelf each and sleep on the Grand Piano.”

    CAT HEAD FLOOR MAT

    (view the product here)

“We recently built a catio on our balcony and the rug worked perfectly out there.”

    CONE SCRATCHER

    (view the product here)

“Every piece has worked together so well. The cats love to go between the Tok Tok and Pole Dancer via the Bridge. I play with them using an interactive wand toy – I drag it up the Pole Dancer and across the Bridge. They run up at full speed and across the Bridge onto the Tok Tok. One then chases the toy, catches it, and carries it all the way down and away to stash in another room – it’s so satisfying for them –
they get to do their natural hunting behaviour.”

“Building the furniture was quite simple. Unlike the other brand, the Woods For Cats pieces came with very detailed instructions, and together with my partner we put the Tok Tok together in an evening (about 2 hours to get the whole bridge and everything set up).”

“Because everything is so customisable, we’ve tried quite a few different setups to see what suited the cats best.”

    THE RESULT

“The quality is incredible, the products are so safe, compact and easy to
clean! Plus, they still look brand new!”

When choosing cat furniture, safety and the footprint of this furniture in her one bedroom apartment were important considerations for Amy. She also wanted to ensure that her indoor cats had access to stimulating and engaging furniture to keep them active, entertained and happy.

“I’m so happy with our Woods For Cats furniture. The quality is absolutely amazing! And the cat trees are so compact. Our place is quite small and I was worried about getting the Tok Tok – thinking it would make everything feel small, but it actually made the room feel bigger!

“…the Tok Tok actually made the room feel bigger…”

“Everything is so customisable, so I know that as our cats grow up and get older we can change up the furniture to grow with them and their changing needs. We actually skipped adding the flat platforms for now – they just didn’t need them right now. But later we can add them back in when they get older and need more platforms to ease the climb.

“This furniture that will grow and adapt with my cats across their lifetime.”
Another benefit Amy found was that by providing cat scratchers early on, her cats never had to look elsewhere (such as her furniture or carpets) – “they’ve never scratched anything other than their cat scratchers”.

“And, even though they’re young energetic cats who are always jumping, climbing and scratching their furniture, the pieces look like new! The carpet looks a little used but everything else still looks brand new. The wood is such good quality and is so easy to clean! The carpet pads are durable and also easy to
    clean.”

Amy described Woods For Cats service as “incredible”:

“Livia is so responsive – I know she must be so busy, yet she always finds the time to answer questions and is always so helpful and knowledgeable about cat behaviour. To anyone thinking of buying Woods for Cats cat furniture, Amy says:
“People will see a set up on the website and think they need to set their pieces up like that, but every cat is different and your cat may not use part or all of the setup. It’s so important to pay attention to how your cats interact and their preferences. I’d suggest that if your cat doesn’t take to the furniture straight away, be patient and don’t be afraid to think outside the box and try different things out.”

“The best part is that these pieces can be adapted and changed to help your cat interact with them. Also, make sure to use positive reinforcement while your cat is getting used to the furniture. My cats are very easy going, but not all will take to new things as quickly – if you can make it a good experience for them it will help them get comfortable with it.”

  • Compact cat trees for a multi-cat household

Compact cat trees for a multi-cat household

Is it time to stop tripping over cat toys?

Explore how Karen used Woods for Cat’s compact cat trees to save space in her multi-cat (& multi-animal) household

    THE CUSTOMER

Karen and her daughter Kire share their home with a menagerie of furred, feathered and scaly pets.

Alongside two dogs, one Macaw parrot, two Amazon parrots, a snake, shingleback lizards, ackie monitor lizards, centralian knob-tailed geckos, and a blue-tongue lizard, live five cats.

There’s Ila and Perrey, the two Bengal cats. There’s Tati, the Devon Rex. And, since the passing of Karen’s mum, they’re also custodians of her two rescue cats, siblings Lilly and Snitch.

So, with a multi-animal and five-cat household, this is one busy home that needs access to enough space and stimulation to ensure their cats feel relaxed, and to reduce cat-to-cat conflicts.

Through the addition of Woods For Cats cat furniture and scratchers, cat netting, and a designated feeding space, Karen and the family have established a safe and ‘catifying’ environment for their cats, without compromising on space.

    THE CHALLENGE

Finding safe, enticing and compact cat trees for a multi-cat household

In any multi-animal household, managing vastly different needs is a normal part of everyday life. There are different physical needs, different needs around stimulation, different feeding and care routines, and different individual personalities and preferences.

For their five cats, Karen and Kire wanted to set up functional, aesthetic and sturdy cat furniture that would give each cat plenty of space to play, climb, scratch and sleep.

“If you’re going to have animals you have to give them enough stimulation, and with the cats that usually means letting them climb.

We had already set up our outdoor porch to be cat-friendly, with cat-netting, bushes and shrubs they can hide in, as well as areas to scratch, climb and watch the world go by. We wanted to be able to give them indoor options as well.

However, we’d been down the path before, of buying a cheap cat tree, only for it to wobble around whenever the cats would jump on it. It wasn’t safe for our cats, and it didn’t last.

So we spent some time searching specifically for sturdy and compact cat furniture in Australia. We found Woods For Cats, and they helped us to get everything we needed for our indoor setup.”

Using a variety of eco pieces from Woods For Cats, Karen has created an amazing cat paradise that runs along the walls of the living space. This includes:

Compact cat furniture for a multi-cat household
    Tok Tok Cat Bridge Australia

    THE SOLUTION

Versatile cat furniture that saves space, handles five cats and adapts to the changing needs of the home

“Living in a small house, it was important that the furniture we bought would tuck away neatly. And, that’s exactly what the pieces from Woods For Cats do. We’ve set them up against the walls, running around the edges of the room, and I’m happy to say, we’re no longer tripping over cat toys!

Even better – unlike a lot of the large and flimsy cat towers you find cheaply, these pieces are easy to move around. They attach from floor to ceiling through spring loading, meaning we can simply shift them as needed and this keeps the cats interested in them over time – making them like new again.

We have set up the Tok Toks and Pole Dancer with hammocks for sleeping. The cats LOVE them. We have 3 hammocks to five cats and it’s definitely a case of first in, best dressed. Two of the hammocks are on the Tok Tok itself, and one is mounted onto the wall.

The bridge that runs between the two Tok Toks was a bit short for our space, so I asked Livia to help me to work out a solution, and she was able to provide the fittings and we sourced a beautiful piece of board from the hardware store, added some marine carpet on top so the cats don’t slip, and it’s been perfect for them to run across.

Access to climbing is particularly important for the health and happiness of cats. Many love to climb and to perch up in high places. These pieces have solved the problem, providing our cats with indoor access to climbing and high perches, without having to change our whole house in the process.”

    THE RESULT

Happy, satisfied cats and no more tripping over cat toys

“From the moment the cat furniture arrived, it was a hit. The cats took to it straight away. Perrey likes to lie up high and bop people on the head as they walk by – he thinks it’s brilliant!

Honestly, we couldn’t have asked for anything better! It’s all worked perfectly both for our space, and for the cats. The quality is beautiful – and whilst you might pay a bit more upfront, it’s furniture that LASTS. Plus, each piece can easily be moved around and adjusted to keep the cats interested over time. And, they look great – the poles and fittings coordinate with the beachy coloured timber and carpets.”

Karen describes the whole process of purchasing, receiving and setting up the furniture as “easy as!”.

“Livia made it so easy. And everything arrived beautifully packaged with no damage. How Woods For Cats work is faultless. They are so passionate about cats, about the quality of their products, and they’re always there to answer any questions we have.

People can do so much more for their cats without too much effort, and adding in some of these pieces can make a difference to a cat’s level of stimulation and activity. “

To anyone thinking of buying from Woods For Cats, Karen says:

“Reach out to Livia and the team. Talk to them about your needs. They can offer support and advice to help you set up just the right space for your home and your cat(s).

In case you’re curious (we certainly were) about what it’s like managing the routines of five cats in one house, we asked Karen all about it…

“We’ve got a really good system in place. There’s sometimes a few challenges around feeding time. After all, trying to feed five cats at once can be hard!

We have everything lined up in the laundry, and use a table with five bowls. It’s then a case of getting the biscuits into each bowl quickly!

Ila in particular is so fit and active that she burns a lot of energy and needs regular bits of food throughout the day. So, we have to manage giving her enough food, without overfeeding the others.

It’s all doable though. They are all eating the same diet and a few of the cats enjoy some raw meat occasionally, too. They get the best quality biscuits, some occasional raw meat, and tinned tuna, sardines…a good variety.

They’re all in such a good routine now that they know the times of day they get fed, and if I take the dogs out for a walk before food time, when I get back I’ll have five cats waiting at the gate for me.”

Tok Tok cat tree from Woods for Cats solved Sarah’s struggle to find compact, sturdy and customisable cat enrichment furniture

Sarah and her two rescue cats, Toby and Lara, happily navigate shift work and apartment living, also thanks to their Tok Tok cat tree.

Toby – adopted from the RSPCA when he was one and a half (in 2020). Toby likes his own space and is easily startled. An active boy, he loves to use Tok Tok for jumping and climbing, and to sharpen his claws.

Lara – rescued from AWL when she was 10 weeks old. Lara is a sociable cat who loves to cuddle, lounge around and to play.

As a first-time cat parent, Sarah wanted to make sure that Toby (and later Lara), had plenty of stimulation during her long shifts at work. Specifically, she wanted a quality cat tower that would provide enrichment, exercise space and a scratching post, all-in-one.

Yet, with Toby being a strong and boisterous young cat, and her apartment having 2.6 metre high ceilings, it was no easy task to find suitable cat furniture that would meet all of their needs.

When Sarah came across eco-friendly pet furniture brand, Woods For Cats, she discovered that Tok Tok floor to ceiling cat tree could provide all the height, strength and versatility she needed.

    THE SOLUTION

Tok Tok cat tree secures easily to Sarah’s 2.6m ceilings and is strong enough for her boisterous boy cat, Toby.

“Discovering Woods For Cats simplified my search for the perfect cat furniture. I chose Tok Tok because of its floor-to-ceiling design, which gives my cats so much space to climb and explore. It’s even spacious enough to easily fit both cats, and strong enough to withstand Toby racing up and down it, or leaping onto it.”

Adding to the ease of the process, Sarah found the shipping and assembly simple, and was able to easily move the tower from one spot in her apartment to another thanks to its spring-loaded function.

Because of the versatility of Tok Tok, Sarah has continued to adapt it over time. So far she has added scratching rope and hammocks which Toby and Lara adore!

    THE RESULT

The perfect fit for apartment life and a multi-cat family

“I’m so happy with Tok Tok. It’s tall enough for my apartment and it looks great. Better still, it’s lasting well and has the flexibility to adjust it to suit any space and any cat.”

Sarah has been particularly impressed with the durability of the tower, sharing “I’ve never had to tighten or adjust it after use, the instructions are super clear, and most importantly, Lara and Toby are so much happier and they use their Tok Tok every day. If you’re considering buying a cat tower, definitely reach out to Livia at Woods for Cats. She knows so much about cat wellbeing and enrichment, and will take all the time in the world to talk to you about what could work for your home and your cat.”

  • Relocating Tok Tok Cat Tree

    Relocating Tok Tok Cat Tree

How advice from Livia at Woods For Cats turned ‘my cats won’t use the nice thing I just bought them’, into ‘they now use their cat tower every day’.

    THE CUSTOMER

When Megan adopted her cats, she knew the importance of giving indoor cats access to enrichment, stimulation and quiet spaces to retreat.

Anya was the first to join the family, adopted in June 2020, at 4 months old. Anya lived as a solo indoor cat for a while, however when COVID restrictions started to ease, Megan worried about Anya being at home alone all day when she returned to work.

After much thought and consideration, Hallie was adopted in November, 2020 and has just celebrated her 1-year adoptiversary.

Woods for Cats have provided Megan with the sustainable, high quality cat furniture she was after, complete with invaluable insights to support both cats to enjoy using their towers.

    THE CHALLENGE

Finding long-lasting cat furniture for enrichment that her indoor cats would actually use

When she adopted Anya, Megan bought a cheaper, carpeted cubby tower for Anya. However, she noticed that in a space of weeks the scratching post had already started to disintegrate. It was no longer usable for Anya, and was destroying the aesthetic of the room.

Megan went online to find an aesthetic and high quality cat tower for Anya – something that would give her vertical real estate to climb, sleep, hide, and observe the world.

Megan wanted a cat tower that she would also like, that would last more than a few months, and that could be easily set up in her rental apartment.

She came across eco pet furniture company, Woods For Cats. She loved their ethos, and the quality and aesthetic of their cat furniture.

Megan purchased both the Woods for Cats Grand Piano Cat Tower and the Tok Tok Cat Tower.

    THE SOLUTION

A fresh approach to cat furniture, backed by a deeper understanding of cat behaviour

Just like people, cats are individuals with their own personalities, preferences and fears. Sometimes what one cat likes, another won’t.

When Hallie joined the family, she was at first hesitant to use the Tok Tok Cat Tower.

Instead of giving up and giving it away, Megan was able to turn to Woods for Cats for support and advice that saw Hallie go from avoiding the Tok Tok to using it every single day.

“When I first got the Tok Tok, I had it in the lounge room against a back wall. I chose this space as it was somewhere the cats could still be involved with myself and with visitors. However, only Anya would use it.

“After seeking advice from Woods for Cats, I made the decision to relocate the Tok Tok into another room, placing it next to a window. It was the best move, and I’m kicking myself for not doing it sooner. Since moving the tower, both cats have been using it every single day.

“Woods for Cats helped me to consider the space from a cat’s perspective – to see that the original placement against the wall could have made them feel trapped as they couldn’t easily get away once they jumped onto it.

“Plus, the new spot in front of the window has sunshine, a big tree outside which sees a lot of bird action, and the cats can see the driveway activity of people coming and going. What’s not to love about that?

Megan found the tower incredibly easy to relocate:

“I initially put off moving the Tok Tok thinking I would need an extra pair of hands, however I moved it myself in an afternoon.

“The top of the Tok Tok is spring loaded, using pressure to hold it securely in place between the floor and ceiling. I’m in a rental and it caused no damage at all to my apartment – in fact you can’t even tell it was moved.”

Megan has also been able to customise the Tok Tok to meet Anya and Hallie’s different needs.

“The standard model comes with one cat house, but I was able to easily add on another one so that they have one house each. I also added a climbing board for them to sprint up. And I added one extra flat platform for Hallie, who is a tiny cat and needs more ledges to help her easily jump up onto higher parts of the Tok Tok.

“I could see her earlier on trying to jump up and becoming like the meme kitten hanging from the tower with her back legs dangling in thin air. I didn’t want her to become frightened of the tower and start avoiding it, so I added the extra flat platform and it’s been very successful.”

    THE RESULT

Quality cat furniture that will adapt to suit their needs across their lifetime

“I have had both towers for a year now and they look as new as the day they arrived. Both Anya and Hallie use them everyday to sleep, and watch the world go by.

“I don’t have to worry about the products only lasting a few months, or developing unsafe leans like some of the cheaper products out there. They look beautiful in my space, and even though the outlay is a little more upfront, I know that they will last my two for their whole lives.

“And the flexibility of the towers has meant that I can adapt them and move them as needed.

“Woods for cats are one of the best companies to deal with online. They have a really quick turnaround on answering questions via email and Instagram (it’s rare to wait more than an hour). I love their ethos – they strive to be sustainable and they support rescue groups around Australia. Plus, they’re 100% committed to the furniture, and to cats having indoor enrichment. They are always happy to troubleshoot any issues with the products or position and they understand cats.”

To anyone thinking of buying from Woods for Cats, Megan says:

“It’s important when you’re investing a bit more to know that you’re not on your own with it if it doesn’t work out – there can be so many factors that might contribute to your cat not wanting to use a piece of furniture. I’d recommend having a look at the space you have in your house and where you would like to put your cat furniture. Then, reach out to the Woods for Cats team and chat to them about your thoughts, seek their input and be guided by their recommendations.”

  • Cat furniture for multi-cat household

    Cat furniture for multi-cat household

The solution to long-lasting cat furniture that adapts with your cats age and needs

    THE CUSTOMER

Matleena and her 11-year-old feline family members, Kath and Kim, share their home with a dog and a variety of foster cats and kittens.

With so many different cat personalities, ages and needs under one roof, Matleena knew the importance of finding versatile, long lasting enrichment options for her home.

Woods for Cats cat furniture met everyone’s needs, by providing towers and scratchers suited to apartment life, that are durable enough for multiple cats.

Cat Tree for large cats Australia
    Customisable cat Furniture
    Cat tree for multiple cats

    THE CHALLENGE

Finding cat furniture that was suitable for a multi-cat apartment, and made to withstand many sets of paws and claws

When Matleena began fostering rescued cats and kittens, she knew she would need long-lasting, quality cat towers to provide enrichment, exercise and scratching space.

“I used to have a large scratching post that took up so much room, and my cats would just walk past. They never showed any interest in it, and would prefer to use my couch to sharpen their nails instead.”

Living in an apartment, it was important to find compact cat furniture that was easy to install (and remove) without causing damage. And, it needed to suit her older cats who live with arthritis, as well as the young energetic foster kittens who stay with them.

Matleena also knew she wanted something that would add to the aesthetic of her home and survive heavy use from a number of cats over time (not to mention saving her own furniture from a slow death by scratching).

Discovering Australian eco pet furniture creators, Woods for Cats, Matleena immediately struck up a strong rapport via Instagram, with their Founder and Director, Livia Lubyova.

Matleena went on to purchase the TokTok Cat Tree, The Pole Dancer (with moon shelf) and also has The Cone Scratcher.

    THE SOLUTION

Cat furniture that adapts to meet different cat needs, is apartment safe and long-lasting

“I discovered Woods for Cats on Instagram. Their products looked beautiful and were advertised to be easy to install and to move, without the need for screws or large amounts of space.

“I was able to speak directly with their Founder, Livia, and she answered all my questions and provided essential guidance on the best products for my home and my cats.

“I’m really happy with each piece of furniture, and both my cats and every single foster cat who has come through, loves them as well.

“I started off with one piece and was so convinced by the products that I added more within only a few months. The TokTok and Pole Dancer are so easy to put together, fit well into small spaces, and don’t require any screw fixtures so they were easy to move around my rental apartment as needed, and were very easy to move into my new house as well when the time came.

“I have been able to adapt the positioning of shelves and ramps to allow Kath and Kim to climb and enjoy the TokTok, despite their arthritis. And I have easily been able to move the position of the towers depending on our other needs.”

Matleena has found the TokTok wonderful for her cats to climb, perch, observe the outdoor world, and to have a safe space to retreat when needed.

The Pole Dancer cat tree has been a particular favourite with the kittens who love to use it to practise their climbing skills.

    THE RESULT

Quality cat furniture that gives both kittens and senior cats essential enrichment and climbing space

“I’m so pleased with the Woods for Cats furniture. My house has these beautiful pieces now which match each other and receive glowing feedback from visitors.

“And, most importantly, the cats absolutely love them, and have stopped scratching my couch.

“The cat trees provide so much activity for the kittens to practise climbing, and they are durable for claw sharpening. I can also adjust them to help my senior cats to also enjoy them.

“Each piece has been of such great value – whilst they’re an upfront investment, they’re lasting so well, and if anything breaks, you can just replace that part – you don’t have to throw the whole tower away. And, to be honest, even with heavy use, I’ve not needed to worry – I might replace the carpets at some point, but that’s at least 5 years away.

Woods for Cats were amazing to deal with. Once you place an order, they track the parcel for you and let you know when to expect its arrival. Upon arrival, they checked in with me to see if I had any questions about assembling the furniture.

“You can tell they genuinely love seeing cats use and enjoy their products – it gives them so much joy.”

To anyone thinking of buying from Woods for Cats, Matleena says:
“Contact Livia and let her know a bit about your cat: their age, activity level, and what the space you have is like. From there, she can recommend the right options for you.

“They’re not just a nameless service; there’s a real person there that cares about your cat and you know you’re in good hands. You’re supported the whole way.”

A food table to improve your cats health and reduce the mess

Improve your cats health and reduce the mess in your house with the Double Food Table

Meet: Smoky – Blue Russian mix and “the friendliest cat you’ll ever meet”.

“After only a few days of using the Woods for Cats raised food table, we could see the positive change in Smoky’s eating habits. He no longer had bugs and dirt in his food, the bowls weren’t getting knocked over, and he was more comfortable whilst eating. ”

    Instagram: @smokycat_official

    THE CHALLENGE

Smoky’s food and water was catching dirt and bugs, and he was uncomfortable whilst eating.

Done with dirt and bugs in his food, Smoky and his people were on the search for a raised food table. They hoped for something cat-friendly, and sustainably made that would be easy to clean.

In their search, they came across Australian-owned and sustainable pet furniture business, Woods for Cats.

Impressed with Woods for Cats commitment to long-lasting and sustainable products, Smoky’s family chose the Double Cat Food Table.

    THE SOLUTION

“Woods for Cats was our solution to improving Smoky’s health, with their high-quality elevated food table, quick delivery and friendly service.”

Impressed with the research-backed benefits of the Woods for Cats Double Cat Food Table, they made their purchase.

They liked that this product has been designed with cat’s in mind.

Unlike other raised feeders on the market (which have often been designed for dogs), the Double Cat Food Table has been made specifically for cats.
    Including:

        • Whisker-friendly depth (to avoid whisker strain), and deep enough to avoid food sliding out
        • Elevated position to support healthy digestion and avoid joint strain (especially important as your cat gets older). Elevation also prevents some cats from playing with their food / water.
        • Treated to be water-resistant and easy to clean (non-toxic)
        • Plastic-free – the base is made from plywood and the dish is ceramic.

“Ever since receiving the food table, Smoky has loved it and has been benefiting from it – it’s great that he now has cleaner bowls, and his food stays fresh for longer. It has made us both very happy knowing this product is improving his health.”

The food table has reduced the occasions of spilled food and water, and has been extremely easy to clean.

“As a company, Woods for Cats have been amazing – very friendly owner and amazing customer service. We love their products for their high-quality and ease of use.

    THE RESULT

“Woods for Cats Food Table has given great peace of mind knowing that Smoky feels more comfortable eating his food, his food is cleaner and healthier for him, and there’s less mess to clean up.”

“Day-to-day now Smoky feels more comfortable and will benefit from eating in an elevated position.”

“I would strongly recommend the food table – it’s totally worth it. Your cat will love it.”

“We know that as Smoky gets older this raised food table will continue to meet his changing needs being gentle on his joints, whiskers and digestive system.”

    Modern Cat Furniture Australia

Tired of Doing Cat Furniture the Old Way? So was Sarah until she discovered ‘Woods For Cats’

Sarah and her cat Nala were struggling to find high-quality and aesthetically-pleasing cat furniture available to an Australian buyer. Then they learnt about Woods For Cats.

Meet Nala: 2 year old British Short-hair.

    THE CHALLENGE

Sarah knew the importance of providing enrichment (and human-approved scratching places) for her indoor cat. However, she was struggling against limited cat furniture options available to the Australian market.

“Searching for a cat tower was hard. There weren’t many options apart from the carpeted look, and we aren’t fans of them – a lot of people don’t find the carpeted towers aesthetically pleasing, plus they’re hard to clean and often not very durable against claws.”

When making the decision to add Nala to their family, Sarah and her partner knew an indoor cat would require enrichment aids such as high perches, climbing frames and scratchers. They wanted Nala to have all of this, whilst still maintaining the aesthetic of their apartment.

“I found one product overseas which aesthetically I liked, and it was within budget, however the company didn’t ship to Australia.”

And so Sarah turned to social media for recommendations.

    THE SOLUTION

A recommendation for Woods For Cats was the solution to Sarah’s search for the perfect cat furniture.

After an international search to find the right cat furniture for their family, Sarah turned to social media for recommendations. A contact suggested a family-owned Australian business – Woods for Cats.

“I had a look and they seemed to tick all the boxes.

“Looking at their website, they had a wide range of options with a clean look to fit in with our apartment, and multi-leveled cat towers for Nala to jump on and to scratch (instead of our furniture).

Unlike many of the carpeted towers, these are made from high-quality wood and are easily wiped down to keep them clean.

We purchased the ‘Grand Piano Cat Tower’. As an indoor cat, Nala doesn’t have trees to climb, and the Grand Piano Cat Tower has 4 layers, as well as a clear bowl at the top for curling up in. There are scratching panels and areas to hang and hide toys.”

Adding ease to the process, Sarah found the Woods For Cats team very friendly from the beginning and very open to questions and feedback.

“It was an easy process, with fast shipping. The Tower arrived fully assembled – we only had to attach one small toy to it. Everything else was ready to go. This was definitely a bonus as we knew that it was constructed correctly, and Nala could use it straight away”

    Modern Cat tower Australia

    THE RESULT

The Grand Piano Cat Tower from Woods For Cats has met the whole family’s needs.

“Having a tower that keeps her occupied has made it so enriching for her as an indoor cat. And we now have a lovely new piece of furniture in our apartment. It is sturdy and easy to clean. And we were able to support a local Australian business with a social conscience.”

    Nala loves:
“Nala loves the clear bowl at the top – she sits in there to people-watch from the window. She loves to play with her toys in the play space at the bottom, luring her toy mice into her ‘den’. There’s a carpet panel on the side for her to scratch. This is removable for easy cleaning. The tower is a whole world of fun for her.

Whilst we spent a little more on this than some cheaper options, we’ve had it since the start of the year and it’s still as good as new. It’s been worth the investment for something long-lasting, aesthetically pleasing, and loved by Nala.

For anyone considering buying from Woods For Cats, Sarah says “they may be slightly more expensive, but if you have the money to spend, you can be confident you’re getting a long-lasting, quality product from a great local business. We’re all very happy with the product and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Woods For Cats.”

  • Long lasting cat furniture will save money & reduce environmental pawprint.

Long lasting cat furniture will save money & reduce environmental pawprint.

How Woods For Cats saved this cat family time and money, and reduced their environmental pawprint.

Meet Kovu: 2 year old Sphynx cat – Energetic – Mischievous. And purring loudly about his Woods for Cats clean, sturdy and sustainable cat furniture.

“Woods for Cats are unmatched in the quality and aesthetic of their cat furniture. We wish every business was like them – they walk the walk meaning you can be confident your cat’s products come from a business who love their animals and the planet as much as you do.”

    Instagram: @kovu_sphynx

    THE CHALLENGE

Kovu’s family wanted to make sure he had a lot of toys and furniture to keep him happy when they were at work. However, they struggled to find products that lasted, that were easy to clean, and available across Australia.

As a kitten, Kovu tried out many cat products to keep him happy and occupied while his people were at work.

He tried toys and scratchers. They were budget-friendly, but they just didn’t last. Not to mention trying to clean them – well that was a whole other challenge.

Kovu used his cardboard scratchers with great enthusiasm, only to have them collapse underneath him, sending his human family back to the shop.

More time. More money. More waste to landfill.

The whole family wanted a better option for Kovu, their bank balance, and the planet.

Then, when Kovu was 6 months old, his human family came across an eco pet furniture company called Woods For Cats.

    THE SOLUTION

Since finding Woods For Cats, Kovu and his family haven’t looked back. 90% of Kovu’s cat furniture and toys are now from Woods For Cats

Their interest was piqued by this local Australian business offering beautiful cat furniture and toys, shipped even to their remote address and promising long-lasting and sustainably made items.

Since getting his first product from Woods for Cats at 6 months of age, Kovu (now 2 years old) has continued to go back for more, choosing them over any other brand.

“They have lasted really well and he loves everything from there. He loved them straight away so it was very easy to keep going back for more.”

Before coming across Woods for Cats, Kovu’s family had searched widely across the internet, including sites such as Etsy.

“But we couldn’t find anything that even came close to what Woods for Cats were offering, especially within the same price range. A lot of the choices out there were very expensive and often overseas so it was hard to even get them delivered to where we live. We weren’t loving the design or look of many, and when we did order a few cheaper items they were hard to clean and never lasted long.”

“The whole process with Woods for Cats has been so easy. Their customer service has been consistently friendly and supportive. The instructions are super easy to read and follow, and they have always followed up to make sure everything has been to our satisfaction.”

“The cost side of things often stops people, but when you weigh up buying a cheaper option every 6-12 months or having the same item of years – the cost starts to add up.”

    THE RESULT

A happy Kovu. A beautiful space the whole family loves. And less waste into landfill. “We have not had to replace one Woods for Cats product over the 2 years we have been buying from them. They’re still as good as new.”

Kovu’s people have some furniture envy. “Sometimes we’re jealous of his side of the house – it looks so nice and if I was a cat, that’s where I would want to be”

    Kovu loves:
“His particular favourite has been the Tok Tok because he can get up higher than us to look out over the room and out the windows. There is a hammock which attaches to it and this is his year-round favourite sleeping spot.”

“We just recently added a scratching pole to the Tok Tok and Kovu uses it every morning when he wakes up. He enjoys zooming around and jumping off his Z Cat Scratching Post, then laying in wait on his Scratcher Couch to pounce on us as we walk by.”

For anyone considering whether to make a Woods for Cats purchase, Kovu’s family say: “We recommend Woods for Cats to anyone looking for long-lasting, sustainable and cat-loved items that are easy to clean and affordable.”

“In the world we live in today, we’re trying to reduce the amount of waste we contribute. Kovu’s Woods For Cats products are sustainably made and will last a lifetime, reducing our impact on the planet.”
